Existing property owners would only face a 5% hike as the tax would target property being added to village tax rolls. The vote on the increase is set for December with impact to tax bills expected the following spring.

Glencoe District 35 is seeking a nearly 8% increase in the latest property tax levy, officials announced. District 35 Director of Finance and Operations Jason Edelheit detailed the intent to raise the levy in the elementary school district’s portion of the village’s property tax bill at an Oct. 12 school board meeting. The overall levy increase would be 7.93%, but Edelheit noted existing property taxpayers would only face a 5% hike.

District officials are considering the request to add on to the existing offices located at Central School citing space needs and safety concerns. District 35 officials estimated the project would cost nearly $5 million, but will know more once bids are received. Edelheit anticipated a bid opening just before Thanksgiving and awarding of the contract in December if the school board approves the project.
