Defence Forces members have been deployed to Midleton in Co Cork this evening as Storm Babet made the town impassable this afternoon.
Now, members of the defence forces have stepped in to help as Minister Heather Humphries confirmed that the Humanitarian Assistance fund will be made available to those affected by flooding in Cork and Waterford.Business and homes across Midleton and surrounding areas have been flooded and damaged as a result, with a local SuperValu getting "absolutely destroyed" by the weather.
Cork County Mayor Cllr Frank O'Flynn released a statement on Storm Babet earlier today, stating that a "months' worth of rain" has fallen in Midleton in the last 24 hours. "Areas where flood defence schemes have been completed fared far better than others in the face of this deluge.
