SF approved more housing permits in September than any other month in 2023. But The City is still well off pace for new homes

San Francisco approved more building permits for new housing units in September than any other month this year and nearly 26 times more units than in August, but The City remains well behind the pace necessary to meet its state-mandated goals.

San Francisco must approve, on average, more than 833 units per month over the next eight years to meet the goals laid out in the state-approved housing element. Mayor London Breed said last month that she doubts The City can meet that goal as things stand right now.
