MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Valentine’s Day is a week away, and if you want to spread love into the community, your help is needed.
Nursing Home Blessings, a ministry for local nursing homes, is planning on delivering Valentine’s cards to nursing home residents. Now they are looking for card donations. “These cards just show them that someone loves them and cares for them,” said Laura Alrdidge, founder of Nursing Home Blessings. “It can bring smiles to their faces.”When any holiday rolls around, it can be difficult to be away from family and loved ones in a facility. That’s why it is important for the community to help out with a kind gesture.
“A lot of us have families here that should come out because they want to, but they don’t. And these people do it for the sheer joy of helping somebody else,” said Alma Harrington, a resident at Capitol Hill Healthcare in Montgomery. If you want to help, you need to act fast. Cards need to be turned in by Friday. Donations will be sent to six nursing homes in Montgomery that hold about 750 residents.
