Christian Faith Outreach Centre (CFOC) is being tapped by Durham Region to handle operations at 1635 Dundas. The new shelter will open to new residents befor

“CFOC is honoured to have the opportunity to operate a low-barrier, which does not mean no-barrier, shelter in the Town of Whitby,” said representative Marla Walters. “Recognizing the critical need for additional compassionate and accessible spaces, we stand united in our commitment to fostering a positive impact on the community.

“Now that Christian Faith Outreach Centre has been selected as the service provider, we are one step closer to opening 1635 Dundas Street East and helping people to get back on their feet,” said Stella Danos-Papaconstantinou, Durham’s Commissioner of Social Services. “This project provides an opportunity for people who are experiencing homelessness to receive supports and meet their goals in a healthy environment.

As part of the first phase of plans for the building, there are beds for 45 residents. Officials plan to provide wrap-around supports, tailored to each resident’s individual requirements.Durham Region requesting funding boost from Ottawa and Queen’s Park to tackle homelessness, addictions and other public health issues
