PublishedPeople in need of affordable homes in a Dorset town are to benefit from the opening of 18 new apartments for social rent.
The new two-bedroom homes in Weymouth will be occupied in the early summer, developer Sovereign Network Group said.SNG head of project management West Raphael Cohen said: “It’s always an exciting moment as we see places come together that will become people’s homes.” The homes were built through the redevelopment of brownfield land, which has not been used since Saint Nicholas Church sold the site in 2018, SNG said.Mr Cohen said: “This scheme feels significant as these will meet the huge demand in Weymouth, where there are real challenges to building new homes for social rent.”
He added: “While these homes are a success, we know that many more than 18 households need an affordable place to live.” Dorset councillor Jane Somper, said: “There is a significant need for affordable housing across the Dorset Council area and this is particularly acute in Weymouth.
