It's 'move-out day' for the remaining families living at a 'problem' property in Columbus, Ohio.

After Franklin County Public Health, Fire Marshall and Prairie Township trustees declared Galloway Village Apartments uninhabitable in Dec. 2023, property owners are receiving notice they need to vacate. Now rehousing costs are adding up for taxpayers in Franklin County. , leaders in Prairie Township said they're locking the gates put up around problem property "Galloway Village" as the remaining five families are scheduled to leave.

Franklin County is picking up the expenses for the moves. Leaders say only five families will need to stay in a hotel as they secure permanent housing. The New York-based owners of Galloway Village are now out of time to appeal against the township takeover of the property. However, lenders of the property filed a case in federal court to appoint a receiver. Township leaders say those lenders are working with a potential buyer who wants to rehabilitate the more than 300 housing units on site.

At the same time, they're working on applying for grants to fund a possible demolition which will cost $2.5 million.
