A burning candle left unattended inside an Adelaide home has destroyed the property and caused half-a-million dollars' worth of damage, while taking more than 20 firefighters to put out the blaze.Authorities have made a plea to the community to practice safety around burning candles in homes after one sparked a huge residential fire in Adelaide's north.
Footage supplied to Seven News showed thick fumes enveloping the area, with some firefighters appearing with bruises. "We thought it was on the couches on fire, then we run to the backyard we open one of the doors and the smoke gets me and my hair burns down," a teenage boy who tried to save the dog told Seven. The dog was visibly distressed after being pulled from the blaze.
