Steelton Borough has announced the appointment of a new Chronic Nuisance Property Ordinance that will help authorities combat public safety concerns within the

Tue, April 2nd 2024 at 7:10 PM borough.

The ordinance is set to reinforce the borough's existing policies for chronic nuisance properties, properties that disrupt the peace and tranquility of borough neighborhoods due to repeated incidents such as criminal activity, disturbances, excessive police visits, code violations or other public safety issues.

“Chronic nuisance properties present grave health, safety and welfare concerns, where the persons responsible for such properties have failed to take corrective action to abate the nuisance condition,” Council President Vanessa Bowers states in a press release. Council President Bowers says these properties create a financial burden to the borough and its taxpayers, and that the ordinance has already been successful in solving the issue in some cases.

Steelton Borough remains committed to fostering a vibrant, safe and thriving community," Council President, Vanessa Bowers said. "This ordinance represents a significant step toward achieving this goal."
