The Living Rent survey showed 62 per cent of private sector tenants questioned said they worry for their homes.

Almost two-thirds of tenants in privately rented properties fear they will lose their home now an eviction ban has been lifted, a survey has found.

The regulations were replaced by a strengthened adjudication process for rent increases, allowing rises of six per cent or less with an effective cap of 12 per cent. Some 85 per cent believe a price hike will have an impact on their quality of life, with 73 per cent saying they will have to cut back on non-essentials.

“Current regulation is not strong enough. The rent adjudication measures are complex and unworkable and landlords will continue to exploit every loophole possible to increase rents and displace tenants.
