Fine Gael’s Frank Fahy has insisted a bye-law for the control of horses needs to be urgently brought in to save lives in Galway.“The city council have issues and the county council are involved in it because it’s in their area and some of the horses are owned by tenants of the city council because we have two halting sites there.
“If you hit a horse in a car you strike the ankles and the whole body is on the bonnet and through the windscreen because they’re generally quite leggy.He added there is “regularly accidents” because horses are breaking out onto the N84 Galway to Headford Road in the Castlepark and Ballybane areas. He highlighted the crisis at a Joint Police Committee meeting in recent days and said bye-laws are needed urgently before a “serious fatality occurs”.
