Dozens of residents on Mercer Island have been evacuated from their homes after a water main leak is causing landslide concerns

If the leak gets worse, there is a potential for flooding or a landslide, according to the City of Mercer Island.MERCER ISLAND, Wash. — Residents in approximately 20 homes on Mercer Island have been asked to temporarily evacuate after a leaking underground water pipe created unstable soil conditions.

The pipe provides water to Mercer Island and is owned and maintained by Seattle Public Utilities . SPU is in the process of turning off the water supply, which takes between six to eight hours. Mercer Island is receiving water through a secondary water main in the meantime.
