Andrea and Jeremy Parker are planning to transform a Summerville church into a five-unit accessible apartment complex intended for residents 55 years and older.
“So Andrea owns a specific church in Summerville, but we recognize that similar churches and other hamlets may represent a similar opportunity,” Fredericks said, noting the planning department opted to seek general text amendments to allow such properties to be converted. Council provided first reading to the proposed changes on Feb. 27. No one spoke against the amendments or the development at a March 26 public hearing, and the planning department didn’t receive any letters of opposition.“Since we’ve engaged our architect, she believes that we can actually get five two-bedroom apartments out of the whole unit and maintain the community room for the resident use – socialization, bringing family over and also the church service every Sunday,” said Andrea.
“We’re going to put in two cisterns to start with, six-inch gutters on the building, and that’ll be our water supply with filtration,” said Jeremy Parker. “The septic system will be inspected.”Andrea said they started August 16 Developments in July 2022 to help address a need in the community. “I’d just like to thank the proponents of this project for addressing a concern that has been present on the Hants Shore for many, many years,” said Jannasch.
