"I just felt angry, really, really angry, because not everyone's house burns down and not everyone has to watch everything you've accumulated in your whole life get destroyed right in front of you."From there, the family have moved between caravan parks and camping grounds, desperately trying to find a place to call home.Each day, Rockingham Holiday Village receptionist Donna Harrington is having to turn more people away than she lets into the caravan park.
Struggling to find a home to rent is becoming increasingly common in Perth, with the city's rental vacancy rate of 0.7 per cent the lowest in the country.Housing Minister John Carey said no one wanted to see people go through what Ms Meakins and her children were experiencing, but he could offer little hope for the future.
Add in workforce shortages and supply chain issues, which have only recently started to resolve, and you've got the perfect storm WA is currently in."There is no line in the sand where we say 'we're done, that's all we can do'," Mr Carey said.
