Founded as Jefferson United Methodist Church in 1946, the church fell behind on rent and was asked to leave the property.

For Pastor Olivia Downen-Walker, the past month has been a series of goodbyes at Jefferson Community Church. There was the closing of a beloved food pantry program, a final church fellowship dinner and the end of a treasured clothing ministry. On Easter Sunday, the last services were held inside the building the church has called home for 78 years.

The Long Game’ celebrates Mexican American teens who built their own golf course, won championship Jefferson Community Church’s departure from Donaldson Avenue, where its bell tower is as much a fixture in the neighborhood as nearby Jefferson High School, means the displacement of several ministries and community services, including five addiction recovery programs.
