to 47 families whose lands were acquired for the housing estate that will be located at Jibi, a suburb of Suleja to serve both the FCT and the state as a way of decongesting settlements around FCT.state commissioner for Land and Housing, Hon Musa Isah Kanko, who presented the cheque to the beneficiaries at the weekend
said the state government alone cannot meet the housing need of its people, that was why they were ready to collaborate with competent private developers in the project.that “despite the fact that Land Use Act says that all lands in the state belongs to the government and in trust of the governor, as it was the tradition, it is mandatory on the part of the government and the developer as spelt out by the rules and regulations of this act to pay compensation”.
“This compensation is not for the land itself but for any possible development that has been carried out on the land and the economic trees”, he added whilethat the project when completed will not only be to the benefit of residents of Niger State but also of the Federal Capital Territory.on the technicalities of the projectlocation of the land .is the responsibility of the government to be fair when it comes toto the owners of this land”, he said.
