Gardaí seize €180,000 worth of cannabis plants in a property search in Roscommon, as part of Operation Tara.

Gardaí have seized around €180,000 worth of cannabis plants following a search of a property in Roscommon.

The cannabis plants were at various stages of growth and are believed to have had a street value of around €180,000. Suspected grow houses are currently the focus of the operation, and investigations are ongoing in the area. “This search operation was conducted as part of ongoing investigations by the Mayo Roscommon Longford Divisional Drugs Unit, under Operation Tara, targeting suspected cannabis grow houses.

The large-scale cannabis cultivation operation was discovered by gardaí at Loughglynn, Co Roscommon on Tuesday afternoon, when cannabis plants and cannabis herb was seized at the property. Three men aged in their 30s were arrested at the scene and are currently being detained at Garda stations in the county. The raid was carried out as part of Operation Tara, which is the national anti-drugs strategy launched in July 2021. It aims to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks at all levels. Suspected cannabis grow houses are currently being targeted by An Garda Síochána as part of an ongoing investigation
