General Motors will move downtown to the new Hudson's Detroit development as it works with Dan Gilbert's real-estate firm to redevelop the RenCen.

General Motors is temporarily moving its global headquarters out of the Renaissance Center in Detroit as the company works to redevelop the space. GM will move into the newly named Hudson's Detroit development downtown in the interim. In a press conference held Monday afternoon, Mary Barra, the CEO of GM, confirmed that the move will take place in 2025.UPDATE 4/15/24, 5:06 p.m.: We have updated the story to incorporate quotes from developer, Dan Gilbert and GM CEO Mary Barra.

The automaker will work with billionaire mortgage mogul Dan Gilbert's real-estate firm to redevelop the Renaissance Center.'Together with Bedrock, the city, and the county, we will work to reimagine the Renaissance Center for its next chapter,' Barra said.Bedrock LLC, Gilbert's real-estate firm, recently placed the final steel construction beam on the development's 685.4-foot-tall tower. The firm broke ground on the project in 2017.
