Prospective buyers shouldn't be put off purchasing older homes or fixer uppers, but they should be aware of potential costs to update and renovate the home prior to buying

In the midst of a housing crisis it's easy to get carried away and ignore potential warning signs when viewing and bidding on homes. However there are some red flags that simply cannot be ignored, according to home renovation expert Shay Lally from Houses to Restore.

BER Rating: A low BER rating is an immediate red flag for prospective buyers because it is expensive to improve. You’re basically ripping the whole house apart to insulate attics, walls, replace windows, install new heating systems. If the energy rating is below a B2, there are a number of government grants available to help with the cost.
