A local purchaser of a $2.47 million Gold Coast unit used the threat of an extra $25,000 special levy hanging over the property to try to put his rivals off.

A 22nd-level, three-bedroom unit at 22F, 5 Bayview St, Runaway Bay, Queensland. Sold at auction for $2.47 million.Agent Mark Saveall, McGrath Southport, Auctioneer Mark Te Whare, McGrath Estate Agents .

All through the campaign we had one potential buyer from Sydney who did extensive research. Mark worked with this buyer all the way almost until the auction started. But that buyer decided to sit still. I don’t know whether that was because they didn’t have that local appreciation, whether the levy might have made them think: “What else is wrong?”It was part of the conversation.

It kicked off at $1.8 million and it was a confident auction. It went up in $100s to early $2s and the broke down in $50s and might have been, in the last few bids, increments of $10.
