Police launched a public appeal earlier this week to find George Barnes who was last seen in the town on April 9. Officers said the 59-year-old, commonly known as Geordie, didn't a have a fixed address and was known to frequent the Leyland Road area.
In an update issued this morning , the force confirmed they were called to reports of a sudden death at a property on Arch Street. While the body has not been formally identified, it is believed to be that of Mr Barnes.The tragic discovery was made shortly after 4pm on Thursday and his family have been informed. Police said their 'thoughts are with them at this sad and distressing time'.In a statement, Burnley and Padiham Police said: "We've got some sad news to bring you.
"Officers attended and found the body of a man. While the body has not been formally identified, it is believed to be that of George Barnes, 59, who had been reported as missing. "His family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this sad and distressing time. The death is not being treated as suspicion and a file will be passed to HM Coroner in due course.
