Comedian John Bishop sells his £6.8m mansion to transport chiefs building HS2 link - despite being a critic

On purchasing the £6.8million property to make way for the rail link, a HS2 spokesman said: 'We have to pay the owners what it’s worth'

In 2014, he voiced a Thomas The Tank Engine-style cartoon attacking the project to link London to Birmingham and cities in the north.seen smashing through smashing through a rural home and speaking to engines ‘Billy’, ‘Pat’ and ‘Bob’.Questioned by the other ‘trains’ HS2 says: “After spending tens of billions of pounds, I will only save 20 minutes. Two years later, the comedian took to Twitter to say: “Anyone looking at the details of this sees how flawed it is, including every independent review.

The HS2 deal, which went through in September, marks the biggest payment by high speed rail chiefs for a domestic property.Transport chiefs have spent more than half a billion pounds buying hundreds of domestic properties on the proposed high speed lines. Department of Transport documents now show the line from Crewe to Manchester – which runs through Northwich - could be just a few hundred metres from the historic mansion.

"What the figures don't show is the immense difficulties that HS2 have caused to these people through their awkward and sometimes bizarre procedures that need to be followed for people to sell their homes through these schemes.

Seems to me that the original route for HS2 in January 2013 was sufficiently close to Whatcroft Hall that it would have affected the value of the mansion. So John may have got a bargain. Then he could either hope not to be affected or take advantage of a compulsory purchase.

For 4 million profit there’s not a person alive who wouldn’t have

I am sure like other individuals /families & business that have felt forced to sell due to HS2 JohnBishop100 and his family would have preferred to stay in their home.

They're all hypocrites once they get the coinage

Another Poor UKLabour hypocrite

Bit of a hypocrite?

Typical Bin Dipper!

Why don't msm refer to HS2 as to what it really is; part of EU planned high speed rail from one side of Europe to the other. Sod all to do with northern improvement as such.

Think he's H from line of duty

Business is Business. Opinions are personal

Money talks, bullshit walks

You can shout and scream and protest all you want now a days, but it’s going happen anyway whether you like it or not. So you may aswell make it work for you your own way!

What choice did he have, no choice at all

Could it have been a compulsory purchase ?

you can shout and scream about anything but in the end 'money talks'...well for some people
