Shadow Treasurer Chris Bowen has announced January 1 as the start date for Labor's contentious negative gearing plan, should the party win the upcoming federal election.
Newly built homes and existing investment properties would be spared under the negative gearing crackdown, and the capital gains tax discount would be halved for investments made after the first day of 2020. The changes are projected to inject a would-be Shorten government with $2.9 billion over four years and save the budget $32 billion over a decade. Image: News Corp Australia

mirandadevine AustralianLabor can mess up whatever costings they want. Won't affect anything. The average pleb Aussie doesn't have a clue or care about anything to do with economics & finance. Labor's irresponsible policies go right over their heads. That's what they're banking on. auspol

mirandadevine The damage is already done. I know a sub contractor working for a large home builder now struggling to find work.
mirandadevine Remember Bowenchris the immigration minister and the disastrous incomprehensible cost to the country?
mirandadevine I am not voting, I would rather pay my $100 dollars, Labour latterly spends like a drunken sailor, screwing up negative gearing and Liberals, bullying every one to get rid of party leaders.
mirandadevine The consistent level of inaccuracy by Bowen on economic matters continues. It’s been 30 years since labor produced a surplus, so hate to think when another will occur with this village idiot at the helm.
mirandadevine Excellent. Has there ever been a moment when Labor got its economics correct ? Ever.
