Property Property Headlines News

This week MoneywebNow looked at corporate real estate, local and offshore bonds, key considerations for renters, and more.

Office is still tough and I spoke with John Jack of Galetti Corporate Real Estate about the green shoots he’s seeing. This is especially true in Cape Town, but there is also some increased demand for A- and B-Grade offices as prices become more attractive after years of negative rental reversions.I spoke with Siyabulela Nomoyi, quantitative portfolio manager at Satrix, about bonds, local and offshore. The asset class has had a great couple of years, but I asked about the risks of rate cuts.

We also touched on Namibian Bonds, which have done very well and should continue to run higher as demand remains strong and supply decreases. In this high-interest rate environment, many are opting to rent rather than buy, and I spoke with Alex de Wet from Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr about renting and what people should look out for. We discussed the rights of both tenants and landlords and what legislative framework governs those rights.Nobody enjoys doing Fica, but it is important, and it works.
