Housing support is a big part of the case management both Beyond Housing and Marian Community provide to women escaping family violence, and the need for it is growing.

Beyond Housing says it has seen a sharp increase in women seeking support due to family violence.More funding for crisis and transitional accommodation is part of this year's federal budget.

"It got to the point where I was not coping having to move around in different accommodation all the time.Jo would eventually find a home to live in through the support of local organisation Beyond Housing. It saw 375 people for that reason between July 2023 to April, compared with 344 the previous financial year.

"That is not everybody else who needs housing as well, either because of living in poverty, family breakdown, young people, older people, First Nations people." Ms Williams said besides long waiting lists for social housing, as well as issues with private rental affordability, it was also important to consider renting challenges that some victim-survivors faced."They might have had a mortgaged home for the last ten years and they are leaving a family violence situation," she said.
