The three-storey annex building currently housing the High Courts and a Magistrate's court in George Town was left in darkness, believed to be due to a substation explosion.Notices saying all High Court cases to be heard Monday were postponed until further notice were put up to notify those concerned.
By 10am, most of the courtrooms and hallways were left deserted while some lawyers waited it out only to be told their cases would be postponed to Tuesday . A court interpreter who declined to be named said he heard that the substation had exploded at 11pm Sunday ."We heard it will take about eight hours to fix and they did bring in a generator but we are not sure if cases will be heard in the afternoon.The Annex building which usually houses the Sessions and Magistrate's courts made way for the High Courts after the High Court building here was temporarily closed last year for restoration work due to structural defects in some sections.
