A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson said the blaze also "singed or scorched" a granny flat, but a crew of 12 firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading.The spokesperson said 80 to 90 per cent of the house's ground floor was damaged, along with 20 to 30 per cent of the upper floor.Six evacuated from the house, while another four family members fled from a granny flat on the property.
They were alerted to the danger by smoke alarms that had been installed by NSW Fire and Rescue last week during a safety visit.FRNSW Zone Commander Greg Wright said the blaze was a good reminder to test out your home's fire alarm system. "Winter is just days away and we're reminding the public to test its smoke alarms to ensure they're in good working order and ready to save lives," Superintendent Wright said."Firefighters can inspect your home, provide advice and install smoke alarms, free of charge, if necessary."
