Grenfell family placed on council house waiting list

Mahad Egal, his partner and two young children escaped from the fourth floor of Grenfell Tower

Grenfell households were"automatically allocated a place at the top of our general housing register", it added.because Kensington and Chelsea Council had said it was"no longer suitable" and would not renew it.The couple and their two children, aged three and five, escaped from the fourth floor of Grenfell Tower

It also said the Acquisition Programme set up to help survivors find a permanent home"has now finished". Local Labour MP Emma Dent Coad told the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire programme this week that the council saw some Grenfell survivors as"troublesome" and wanted to"clear the decks" before the second anniversary of the tragedy on 14 June. The couple were previously offered a permanent home by the council, and moved in last month. The home had been connected to a building with aluminium decorative casing around the windows.

HackneyAbbott So what, it's probably the top of the list anyway.

HackneyAbbott Best check they were ACTUALLY tenants!!!

HackneyAbbott The fire was a tragedy but how come when the towers were built, under labour, did and as far forward as when bliar was in power did nobody bother with fire prevention?

HackneyAbbott If there were 125 flats and 72 people sadlly died, leaving 223 survivors, but the council bought 300 homes, why is this still a problem?

There's a lot of fake accounts commenting on this. Must be a training exercise for the 77th.

Because they preferred to sit in hotels getting free accommodation, money, clothes etc.

HackneyAbbott Poor lad can’t work his heart hurts apparently, he has turned down offers of homes had a payout to restart his home but that’s still not enough. Stop his free rent until he accepts a home.

No definitely not , she knew what she was doing.tough

Scott1984_FP Proper scummy move by torys.

Maybe some British billionaires will step in to fund a fix to this?

Aw shucks

Having already rejected a permanent home they should be grateful they're not being classed as intentionally homeless.

If they want to be so choosy then they should rent privately. Are this couple even genuine? They have been lots of fraudsters.

The fact they were given factual re-assurances based on scientific evidence which they refused to accept suggests that they thought they could be picky and now it has inevitably backfired, what a shame. They have the thing that matters most to them, their lives.

I don’t think I could rest in a tower block ever again if I had been through the same thing

But if your a white teenage single mom with 4 kids you would be priority.

BBCPolitics What happened to the millions the Council were supposed to be using to rehome these vulnerable survivors?

theresa_may promised to re-house Grenfell families within 3 weeks. Another major fail.

HackneyAbbott tough shit thats life .

Two buildings devastated by fire. One no lives were lost, the other over 70 people died and many lost their homes. One given over 1 billion euros in less than 48 hours, the other people are still without a permanent home and justice. NorteDame GrenfellTower

HackneyAbbott shame on you and yet you give that terrorist Free Legal Aid and you cant house that man disgusting get your priorities right ? They should not have to wait to be housed ?

Compare and contrast the millions being pledged to Notre Dame with the misery of real people who saw their friends and families perish in a totally avoidable tragedy

The amount of racist pure nasty comments is unbelievable. We don’t know the circumstances of this family but we know they have endured a traumatic event show compassion. I find it unlikely they would turn down suitable accommodation n wouldn’t want to settle with their kids.

All it can and yet not enough for this family.

HackneyAbbott Do white people even exist Diane

Very ungrateful, take what your given, people out there would jump at the chance to be rehoused.

HackneyAbbott They rejected a perfectly safe home, their problem if they have to wait longer.

HackneyAbbott Within a few months of the fire the local authority had purchased close to 300 properties to rehome those from Grenfell which had around 125 flats.

Lucky devils. Many Non immigrant English people don’t have a chance of this.

HackneyAbbott How about get a job?

A shame for the family but what do they want? If they have turned down previous offers just because it doesn't suit them tyen that's their problem. They may be Grenfell survivors but they are not some special class of heroes or martyrs. Lots of people suffer from fires.

The framing of this article is unbalanced and calculated to invite criticism of the family. When talking about what the couple previously went through, you should be talking more of how they nearly died, and not throwing words like 'triggered' about.

'The couple had previously rejected a permanent home as they say it triggered memories of the fire.' Then you will live in the street you ungrateful sods. Not my tax money. It's all labour fault that we have this ridiculous welfare system and entitled attitude to welfare.

In 1940, when there were Grenfells by the score every night and Londoners like my mum, then a little girl, cowered in Oval tube station as the bombs fell, I wonder how many Mahad Egals shared the terror.

would be interesting to understand the very specific requirements the couple have outlined.

Probably an illegal also

BBCPolitics This needs some focus and clarity. Rehousing and separating these people does not solve the issue for them or us. It needs to stay front and centre as a big picture! How are they all doing? Are they all comfortable? How did those who lost folks pay for funerals etc? What’s needed?

More than catered for.

Meanwhile we are going to send money to France to help rebuild a cathedral
