Vandals defaced the Manhattan and Brooklyn homes of several Jewish board members and the director of the Prospect Heights-based museum between June 11-12, using red spray paint to cover the facade and windows of at least one house and leaving messages of hate.
“I was shocked and appalled by the attacks,” the council member said. “This has absolutely no place in my district or in our city.”Other local elected officials expressed their outrage online, too, including Mayor Eric Adams. It is not clear if Tuesday’s vandalism is being investigated as a hate crime. But antisemitism and bias incidents have proliferated both locally and nationally since the start of the Israel-Hamas war in the Middle East on Oct. 7, 2023.
