The alleged mastermind behind the biggest burglaries in British history has been charged in Serbia.

Ljubomir Romanov was one of four men who took part in a £26million series of raids on the homes of F1 heir Tamara Ecclestone and Frank Lampard, prosecutors said.

Incredible footage shows the moment armed Serbian police kick through a hotel room door to surprise the alleged cat burglar in bed before handcuffing him while still in his underwear last December. The thieves plundered £25million worth of jewellery and cash from Ms Ecclestone's home on 'Billionaire's Row' in Kensington alone, with none of the loot ever recovered.

In just over an hour the burglars cleared the mansion of 400 items of jewellery and large sums of cash. The Mail revealed in 2021 that Romanov had lived in Milan where he had properties and businesses under the name of Alfredo Lindley - a Peruvian lawyer whose identity he had stolen.
