The journey of a Oxfordshire couple, Simon and Rebecca, who purchased a run-down end terrace in the Rhondda on Homes Under the Hammer, was not without its calamities.
Despite being successful bidders for the property and going £11K over the £35K guide price, Simon and Rebecca soon found their dreams of kick-starting a property portfolio hit by many setbacks. These included the discovery of an underground spring beneath the house causing alarming water problems, and a break-in during the renovations.
"Can you imagine the weight of soil and Welsh hillside that's holding up? It is scary beyond belief," he said. "You'd be looking at tens of thousands of pounds, £25,000."Simon and Rebecca, who run a cleaning company in Oxfordshire, shared why they chose Tylorstown: "We got drawn to the area due to the cost of the properties around here."
Homes Under the Hammer revisited the Tylorstown property 13 months after their first visit to showcase the incredible transformation work that Simon and Rebecca had undertaken including a complete makeover of the living space and bathroom - which were in dire need of an update - and Simon also mentioned that extensive work to prevent the spring from overflowing had been done, tanking down below floor level to redirect the water and enhance the drainage.
