Build 10,000 houses for homeless in 10 years? L.A. is closer, but it'll have to stretch funds.

Construction is underway on North Madison Avenue, where money from Proposition HHH is being used to construct PATH Metro Villas, which will provide housing and social services for formerly homeless individuals. Other projects are in the pipeline with one set to open in December.

In the coming weeks, city housing officials will review bids far exceeding the $338 million remaining in Proposition HHH. To get close to the 10,000-unit goal, they will need to tap other sources of funding from the state and employ new ideas for building housing less expensively.Construction on several housing projects has started, and the pace is picking up. But the first units won’t be ready until December.

That leaves only about $117,000 in subsidies for each of the 2,880 supportive units that remain to be funded — or less if more affordable housing units are approved. Second, reacting to pressure from the citizens committee appointed to oversee HHH spending, the City Council in January setfrom the $338 million for Mayor Eric Garcetti to explore faster and cheaper methods for building homeless housing.

That would still leave the city making up lost ground in building 3,000 units with non-HHH funding sources.

Dems: Maybe we should ty and help out the middle class? Nah, F’em!

CA. clown bosses Gavin Newsom and Garcetti are talking about fixing homelessness because they want to run for Prez. more than 15,000 people a year are leaving CA because it sucks so bad and TAXES so high. Keep up the DEMOCRAT suck work.

California’s message is clear: be a useless, lazy, blood-sucking, drug-addicted parasite — get a free house! Meanwhile the hard-working tax payers get f$&ed. Stop voting for democrats!

Time for billionaires to help? Win-win situation

they will have 10000 ghettos

And in 10 years you'll need 80k more. . Drop in the bucket

What for? They won't use them. They prefer living on skid row.

They’re going to have to build a heck of a lot more than that. The State’s horrible policies are ruining more Californians every single day.

Yes.

Is this an parody account?

Are they giving these houses away? If they are then they will not be taken care of. What else will be free, the money to pay the utilities, insurance, and the food to eat? Are there any requirements like getting a job? This wiull end badly.

Why not let the private sector take care of this? Then L.A. wouldn’t need to “stretch” tax payer money.

This will only lower property values and deteriorate the city.

How many homeless will that accommodate? Homeless folks might get back on their feet in a studio apartment.

Build them houses in Vegas.

That's the cure: several million homeless and dozens of millions of illegal aliens and cordoning 10K into a ghetto is the solution.

who’s gonna build me a house?

But many homeless need long term facilities. Because they are permanently brain damaged from the drug epidemic. Most of them can't wipe their own ass anymore . So.. if you give them a house how is that help ?

Do yall also call prisons 'houses'?

L.A. is the perfect place to build homes for the homeless. its got a variety of people that can benefit from our welfare
