on Wednesday after it confirmed the presence of bird flu which likely came from wild birds.
Bird flu was confirmed at a farm in NSW's Hawkesbury region, sending the property into lockdown on Wednesday. The government will monitor 355,000 birds at three nearby commercial poultry farms for any signs of bird flu and the movement of eggs, birds or machinery at these properties has been banned. NSW chief veterinary officer Emily Doyle, who is leading the response to the outbreak, has met with industry organisations to discuss next steps on tackling the flu.
“The government will work closely with industry to reduce the risk of spread and minimise any impact on egg supply.”The farm’s lockdown comes as seven farms across Victoria have confirmed a different strain of avian flu within their birds.
