After hustling to get as many housing projects started as soon as possible, Los Angeles is coming to the end of the money available through Proposition HHH.

Construction is underway on North Madison Avenue, where money from Proposition HHH is being used to construct PATH Metro Villas, which will provide housing and social services for formerly homeless individuals. Other projects are in the pipeline with one set to open in December.

In the coming weeks, city housing officials will review bids far exceeding the $338 million remaining in Proposition HHH. To get close to the 10,000-unit goal, they will need to tap other sources of funding from the state and employ new ideas for building housing less expensively.Construction on several housing projects has started, and the pace is picking up. But the first units won’t be ready until December.

That leaves only about $117,000 in subsidies for each of the 2,880 supportive units that remain to be funded — or less if more affordable housing units are approved. Second, reacting to pressure from the citizens committee appointed to oversee HHH spending, the City Council in January setfrom the $338 million for Mayor Eric Garcetti to explore faster and cheaper methods for building homeless housing.

That would still leave the city making up lost ground in building 3,000 units with non-HHH funding sources.

California and Los Angeles are VERY wealthy, there is an epic homeless CRISIS, humanitarian crisis, it can be solved. Clearly has not been the priority. GAFATUM GAFATUMES

With California ports and goods coming through this state you'd think the roads'd reflect wealth of those billionaires with 'great ideas', Warren gushes her plan wealthtax 2 cents for every dollar over $50 million is supposed to be palatable, to whom? How 'bout 50 cents?

Ohhhhh Well! Wonder how they keep blowing money? Chauffeur Martini lunches, overpaid do nothing gov employees? Illegality? Figure it out CA, we ain’t a Piggy Bank! You got more mouths to feed?

Did they start many that they didn't have the money to finish & thus force future voters to approve the added taxes to pay for completed housing? I understand Teddy sent the Great White Fleet half way around the world & then Congress had to fork over the money to get them back?

No problem...just Tax the Aceman. He still needs to pay 'his fair share'. adamcarolla

I’m just shocked this boondoggle failed 🙄
