Two years after a diver died trying to retrieve cocaine from Newcastle Harbour, investigations have led police to search a Sydney granny flat.Police have tested a Sydney granny flat for fingerprints and DNA as part of the investigation into a deadly cocaine haul in the Port of Newcastle two years ago.
On June 19, detectives raided a granny flat behind a home on Jedda Road in the south-western Sydney suburb of Lurnea.Specialist officers forensically examined the flat, coating surfaces with luminol — a chemical that can help detect blood at a crime scene. Cocaine packages were taken into evidence by police at Newcastle after a diver's body was found near 50 kilograms worth of the drug. The search of the flat comes nearly a month after detectives excavated a buried truck as part of the same investigation.During the search, police said they located a white Mitsubishi Fuso truck which they will allege was used by an alleged drug syndicate.
