In 2009 we were promised a fast National Broadband Network with optical fibre cables direct to most homes and businesses. Instead, we've ended up with a mix of technologies.

Mike Quigley said if Labor's original fibre-to-the-premises plan had been continued it would be almost complete and would have cost less than the current network.

"It would have taken a little longer, I don't dispute that, it certainly wouldn't have taken six to eight years longer.""What we have done under this government is what the rest of the world does," he said.

We got conned, we pay for the infrastructure, then we have to pay to use it. But wait, then if you want fast down load it will cost you more, but wait some actually tell you how much your allowed to use.

This was nothing short of vandalism.

yveyong Yes. Another classic Australian lost opportunity through a bandaid solution.

Well done ABC, only 6 years of sabotage of the NBN by the Coalition & you're reporting on it now.....

Two tins and a bit of string, that's what you's voted for, to late to fix it now.

NBN Co has $28,000,000,000 worth of assets but half of Australia has third world internet

But No Mention of Murdoch meddling in OUR Politics's, Foxtel OR Netflix screwing with the Peoples NBN!

This will be one of the Biggest Blunders that the Liberal Party is Responsible for!

We all know who nerfed the NBN. Thanks Tony.

Thank you LiberalAus. Another great achievement and investment in Australia's future...

Malcolm was comm minister he was trying to be a smart arse by picking el cheapo option by hybrid Now we get a spaghetti mess

NBN 💩

Most interesting, 2 or 3 people's opinions and we're ready to assign blame. If nothing was done, there would be no blame! Or is it the case that the perfect solution wasn't delivered with zero cost? The social media effect factor of limiting thinking to one's device screen?

Since connecting to the NBN the Internet is slower & we have had more hoax phone calls and more interruptions So has been a waste of taxpayers money WApol Auspol auspol2019 telecommunications ABCPolitics WestAusParty QandA wanews Telstra

Yeah well, ppl knew this would happen under the coalition govt... you were warned!

Whenever something comes out of Malcolm Turnbull's mouth is waffle.

This is what we got ...

I think you’ll find with a small bit of research Murdoch was behind this massive fail...

THIS is what we got for the Many Billions spent💩!

Fucking Murdoch. He runs this country.

My nbn is great sits on 40 Mbps & only dropped out 4 or 5 times over the last 2 years

FTTP for everyone please

Wasted money. My cable speed was faster and cheaper than the NBN I have now. NBN_Australia FinancialReview NBN

One of the more frustrating things in life...

Bloody communications minister and weak PM. He should take personal ownership of the NBN debacle

Bloss55 I can do without a sub standard NBN, I am happy with my ADSL2 , so why will I be forced to pay more than double $$$ for band width I don’t need and won’t use? How is that fair?

Senator Conroy mishandled the NBN brilliantly. His best work.

Promised by Labor twice and they got nothing done. Took another party to actually complete something.

Noticed how those bragging about NBN working for them perfectly also have a pathological hate for the ABC? It's almost as if, nah.. they wouldn't just lie like that right?

Another wonderful legacy of the Kevin Rudd years.....

So ranking 62 on the global index is “fit for purpose”?

My NBN is super fast. Sucked in MOFos

What did I miss? Took me a while to get on.....

The LNP sabotaging the network on our coin is too much to bear. What's faster than a continuous optic fiber network? Nothing! The LNP were so blinded by tearing down all of Labor's initiatives they either couldn't see or didn't care of the future tech that could use the network.

Live in Brisbane suburb Corinda and I still haven’t got it. I don’t want it as the advertised speed is no better than my reliable ADSL2. The crappy HFC is the way it’s supposed to come here which is very poor technology.

Trumbull and Abbott are the culprits who downgraded this critical infrastructure. We haven’t got our NBN yet.

Would love to hear TurnbullMalcolm try to defend the complete rubbish that is the NBN. He was either incompetent as a minister, had absolutely no technological experience, or has completely sold out in a personal bid for a return to leader.

My NBN is Awesome. I’ve had it for about 8 months now. 👍

That is a terribly written report. It’s not until the very end that readers are informed that the reason the NBN is a mess is because of the Liberal’s failed MTM policy. The ATM government destroyed the NBN at an incalculable cost. ausvotes auspol

this is what we get 10 mins from Bris CBD.. not even 3Mbps

Dumb comment no 1 can tell the future. Now we have better teck. It is super fast if you compare it to the speed when it was started.

6 years of Coalition and this is Labor's fault.

A big lemon

And who do you think is to blame for this? It was the Liberals and their coalition party, whatever their called now, who decided we didn't need world first technology. Abbott, Turnbull and Morrison and their cronies brought you this mess, Labor's plan was for best available.

That’s why Rudd lives in the US now. He wouldn’t be game to show his face in Australia again. Another Labor fail.

Great job Labor! 🚫😂🤦🏻‍♂️
