President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision to merge power, works and housing into a humongous ministry in 2016, has proved to be a huge gamble. A more focused government would never have done that. It was clearly an unthinkable thing to do. No nation still wallowing in the throes of development would attempt to place the most critical sectors of its economy under the control of a super minister.

Most times, when Fashola speaks on the power situation in the country, his often bloated assessment is starkly different from the reality on the ground. Some energy statistics running currently on social media and credited to African Outlook of power generation in certain parts of the world would clearly show that the so called giant of Africa is still light years away from real development.

Power supply is the catalyst of growth in any country. The industrial revolution in Europe was driven on power sourced from coal. What values are Nigerian politicians or democracy, adding to the fortunes of the country? Is it just to enjoy the spoils of office and abdicate the responsibilities?
