The idea for the Bayview Avenue Apartments came from Reverend Isaiah Moultrie and his wife.

An affordable housing complex, including 48 apartments for veterans and seniors, is coming to Inwood, officials say.Moultrie, 89, is a former Marine who also served as a pastor for over 50 years in Inwood and South Carolina.

The five-story, 48-unit apartment building is being built on the same land Moultrie bought 40 years ago.At Wednesday's groundbreaking ceremony for the apartments, Bishop Moultrie's son, also named Isaiah, who is CEO of Inwood Property Development, spoke about the decades-long effort in making his family's longtime dream of bringing affordable housing to Inwood a reality.

"Inwood was a such a great place to grow up in...we were a very close-knit town and I want to try and preserve that and bring that into the next generation and give them that feeling that we had." the younger Moultrie said. They'll be available for people earning up to 80% of the area's average income, about $71,000.

According to Inwood Property Development, applications will be accepted starting May 2025, and construction should be completed in July 2025.More from News 12
