Whitby declaring surplus lands for Habitat for Humanity to build affordable housing units

During their council meeting June 24, they voted in favour of declaring two parcels of land as surplus.

The mayor and the town clerk have been authorized to sign an Agreement of Purchase and Sale and the Affordable Ownership Contribution Agreement between the town and Habitat that will still need to be approved by other town officials. “We are thrilled to be embarking on our first ever project in Whitby, following four years of rapid growth of our work in Durham Region,” said Habitat GTA CEO Ene Underwood. “We have been incredibly impressed by the spirit of partnership with the staff and council of the Town of Whitby, who have set the right tone and have been passionate about this project from the start.
