About a month ago, Cortney Bench noticed Mechanicsburg borough workers spray painting pink marks on the sidewalk in front of her home on Broad Street.
“When it pours, water bubbles right out of the drain and it floods,” Bench said. “You can’t even walk on the sidewalks.” But the flooding they have experienced for decades could to come to an end with drainage improvements. Even though they don’t know if the stormwater problem will be fully fixed, the borough is still asking homeowners to have their sidewalks and curbs fixed by Labor Day so they can start paving. Homeowners can select their own contractor or use the borough’s, Rogele, Inc., whose total base bid for the entire borough was more than $1.8 million.
