WA Senator Fatima Payman is charging taxpayers a $310-a-night travel allowance so she can stay in her $450,000 Canberra investment property, giving her a major reason not to quit parliament entirely if she splits from the Labor Party as expected on Thursday.

She received an indefinite suspension for her decision following a meeting with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Sunday. The outlet's National Political Editor Samantha Maiden said the property gave her"a $450,000 reason not to quit Parliament". Ms Payman also claimed $2,790 in travel allowance for nights in Canberra during November and $1,240 in December.
