Ayub Qassim claimed he 'did Jay a favour' by letting him stay at the Airbnb property he had rented close to the village of Masca in Tenerife

A British man who was with Jay Slater at an Airbnb before he vanished has insisted everything was fine when he left, despite suggestions that the teen might have swiped a pricey Rolex.

Williams-Thomas mentioned in a clip, "We've been unable to validate this in terms of a reported theft", but added that Jay's friends reckon he wasn't lying about the watch, which they chatted about later on, reports the Manchester Evening News. The former detective also suggested Jay was "scared" when he left the Airbnb.

Earlier accounts suggested detectives were examining allegations of a nightclub fracas concerning a stolen Rolex watch in the hours preceeding Jay's disappearance. It was believed that a dispute occurred outside the well-known Papagayo Beach Club, where Jay was recorded celebrating, involving a man who claimed his Rolex watch had been stolen.

Qassim, who has since returned home to east London, said that Jay 'came to the Airbnb alive and left alive'. "I let the geezer stay at mine because he had nowhere else to go, his friends had all left him", he said.
