Nottingham City Homes is taking a family to court as it tries to evict them so that it can sell off their property. It was first revealed in February that the Nottingham City Homes Group was selling 44 properties as part of efforts to repay £18 million of ringfenced money that should have been used on its housing stock, but that was unlawfully spent elsewhere.
A court date has therefore been set as the family challenge the validity of their Section 21 notice. Dean Allan, 46, has lived in his Woodborough Road property for five years with his wife and their two children.Mr Allan will be attending the 'accelerated possession hearing' at Nottingham County Court on August 2 alongside his wife. An accelerated possession order is applied for by landlords if their tenants have not left by the date specified in a Section 21 notice.
"It's a lot of upheaval just because Nottingham City Council can't manage its finances." Nottingham City Homes , a company completely owned by Nottingham City Council but previously operating at arms-length from the authority, was folded back into the council last year.
