Water levels in Lake Ontario are beginning to approach the levels seen in the spring of 2017 when flooding damaged dozens of homes on the Toronto Islands but the city says that numerous precautionary steps taken in the wake of that event should hopefully “prevent a recurrence” this time around.

The Toronto Region Conservation Authority issued a shoreline hazard warning on Tuesday after the water level in Lake Ontario hit 75.5 metres.

The TRCA warning stated that properties which experienced flooding during the spring of 2017 could experience flood impacts again “as the water level in Lake Ontario continues to rise.” “Before the ferries would come in and they couldn’t dock properly because the water levels were so high. We have different levels now so the ferries are able to dock, ” he said.

He said that crews have set up sandbags along the eastern portion of Ward’s Island and will add more as necessary.

Yeh they think a pump or two on the island will control the lake levels. Gotta see how this works.

When you base that on what 'city officials' say, I really don't have much confidence.

I suspect they are being hopeful, or naive. Just read that expected level for Lake Ontario is 75.5 m. In 2017 it was 75.9. Hope that .4 meters is enough to avoid the flooding.

Good because I want to go enjoy riding a bike on that island soon.
