Conservative politicians have long professed their infallible belief that Britain should be a “property-owning democracy”. From Noel Skelton, who actually came up with the phrase in the 1920s, to Margaret Thatcher, who usually gets the credit, it is their maxim. So in 2010, when David Cameron found himself presiding over a fall in homeownership so severe that it hit a 30-year low and hearing that even the middle classes couldn’t get on the housing ladder, he felt compelled to act.
This was exploited by the middle class who have the educational background to use any situation to their advantage. Education, grants for everything, tax scams, jobs etc they get to pick the low lying fruit. Watch out though automation is coming to get you.
Are all those 5 million counted as 'caught in' private renting? I choose to rent, as I'm sure many others do for various reasons. And I certainly don't expect the taxpayer to pick up my bill.
That was the plan wasn't it? Industrial scale gerrymandering that would have made Shirley Porter blush. Still, the crash is coming and we can all have a good laugh!
But the licence fee is where we need to focus our attention. Not the renters who are slaves to the whims of their landlords, have no rights and pay half of their wages to greedy c****.
Another UKLabour mess Cons are fixing....
