A military helicopter has been deployed after a river burst its banks in Wainfleet, Lincolnshire because of heavy rains. About 70 properties were hit by flooding but authorities warned up to 720 could be affected. Latest on this story here:

A Chinook was deployed to drop sand in Wainfleet All Saints to try and stop the flow of water from the River Steeping and a Puma was also being used.

As of 12 June, Britain has seen total rainfall of 2.6 inches since the beginning of the month, but that is not a record amount. The Met Office says June 2012 remained the wettest ever with 5.9 inches . "It's something we do get now and again, which is obviously unwelcome for those people who have wanted to enjoy nicer weather."

I wonder if Pakistan or another countrys will give aid

Hi. I was operating the small pump at the 11kv station.

Hard to fathom why so many properties have been allowed to be sited & built so they are very obviously at risk from a river level clearly making them utterly vulnerable to flooding at such a low level compared to many flood risk areas! Prayers for affected; hope you are insured!

My heart goes out to those poor families, it must be devastating all this flooding.

EnvAgency EnvAgencyMids getting it in the neck about failed river maintenance. Let's not forget the this Govt's disinvestment in these matters. Also that civil service diktat forces agencies use failed 90s style project management methodology with no common sense marksedwill

Down in Cornwall. The Sun is out.
