Jacinda Ardern's government insists their commitment to low-cost housing remains, announcing a raft of changes to their 'KiwiBuild' policy suite.

The New Zealand government has performed a spectacular mea culpa on one of Labour's signature election policies, walking away from a pledge to build 100,000 affordable new homes within a decade.Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's government insists their commitment to low-cost housing remains, announcing on Wednesday a raft of changes to their "KiwiBuild" policy suite.

One year into the planned decade of house-building, just 141 houses had been constructed, well short of the first benchmark of 1000.Targets of 5000 by June 2020 and 10,000 by June 2021 have now been discarded. While Ardern embraced the KiwiBuild policy, the plan preceded her leadership by five years; first announced in 2012 by then-leader David Shearer.Four Labour leaders and two elections later, Ardern found herself in the position to implement it after building a coalition government with NZ First and the Greens.

Great decision, let’s erect a statue of the NZ PM on top of the opera house to celebrate.

And then she began to tarnish

Easy to make big promises and get the kudos but hard to find the money

Takes off Muslim veil. Reality kicks in.

They finally did the math 😂😂

😂😂😂

😂👌

Give Ardern a break, its really tough these days being a committed Leftist/Socialist. I mean ,you go to do stuff and whoa, you've run out of other peoples money. Sure like to know what happened to the Islamic headscarf. I mean,it wasn't just a political stunt ,was it ?🤔🤔🤔🤔

Oh no, Saint Jacinta what have you done!!

Good on her for seeing something isn’t being truly effective and trying to help first home buyers in NZ with making the policy more effective. That’s the sign of a true leader

She is Obamaesque, talks a good progressive rhetoric, but not much in the way of progressive action.

Another non sustainable government promise. Obviously her popularity has suffered now that she doesn’t have a mass panic event to deal with
