Nini and EJ have aims on scoring the lead roles in their school’s upcoming production of, so Ricky decides to audition too, in the hopes of getting in between his ex and her new beau.
The new song is perhaps the most glaring example of the show’s market-tested design, appealing in an obvious way, but existing merely to check a recent-trend box. I wonder if young audiences will feel pandered to by. My guess is the show’s fans will be a bit younger than teenagers, at an age when it’s less clear what’s authentically of its era and what’s only sold as such.
