The NSW Rural Fire Service warned temperatures could climb into the 40s – creating severe fire danger ratings for a second consecutive week. Firefighters from New Zealand will be flown to Australia to help control blazes on the ground, while airtankers will be brought in to fight fires from the air.
Bushfires have destroyed 420 homes in the past week and burnt through 1.5 million hectares of bushland. Meanwhile, hot and dry conditions continue to batter parts of Queensland this week. A number of ‘leave now’ warnings are in place for Moreton Ireland and Pechey, north of Toowoomba, where fires are burning out-of-control. Image: News Corp Australia
