A code red – the state’s highest bushfire warning – has been declared for The Mallee region and Northern Country districts. Temperatures are expected to climb past 40 degrees on Thursday, paired with hot and windy conditions. A state-wide total fire ban remains in place on Thursday and more than 45 schools and early childcare centres will be closed. This is the first time the code red warning has been issued since 2010.
